RoHS Testing
The development of modern industry creates a great deal of economical interests, meanwhile lead the increasingly serious environment problem. All the countries promulgate regulations to restrict the harmful matters in industry. EU promulgated Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE-2012/19/EU)and The Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous substances in Electnical and Electronic Equipment(RoHS-2011/65/EU). Prohibition on sale of Electrical and electronic equipments containing Pb, Cd, Hg, Cr(Ⅵ), PBBs, PBDE, phthalates required in this directive.

RoHS 2 currently restricts 10 hazardous substances in EEE and they are included in the Annex II of the Directive 2011/65/EU.

Status

Substances and Limits

Current Restrictions

·      Cadmium(Cd): 0.01%

·      Mercury: 0.1%

·      Lead(Pb) : 0.1%

·      Hexavalent chromium (Cr6+) : 0.1%

·      Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB): 0.1 %;

·      Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE): 0.1 %

·      Bis(2-Ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP): 0.1% ;

·      Benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP): 0.1% ;

·      Dibutyl phthalate (DBP): 0.1% ;

·      Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP): 0.1% .

It shall be noted that above maximum concentration values apply to each homogeneous material rather than a product or a part itself. A homogeneous material means material of uniform composition throughout that cannot be mechanically separated into different materials.

Some companies have set stricter limits than above regulatory limits. For example, Apple's limit for Cadmium in homogeneous material is 0.005%.

The international community and transnational enterprises have made a move. Environmental protection, environment management, green supply chain management are coming into being a great international trend. To every enterprises in the supply chain of Electrical and electronic equipment, it is an immediate necessity to select and produce the raw material and productions of hazard free and satisfying every customer.
PTS Testing Service Lab pays attention to the developments of EU regulations ever and again and apply ourselves to afford all-around environmental protection regulations, information, consultation and training to make the productions satisfy the increasingly renewed EU regulations.
PTS Testing Service Lab offers all RoHS testing service.
●Providing test and verification on banned chemical substances in complete appliance, electronic raw materials and components in accordance with RoHS
●Providing third-party assessment on suppliers of electronic raw materials or components and service to improve management in green supply chain
●Providing spot test and check to suppliers, and inquiry about testing database (to verify the authenticity of suppliers’ testing reports)

What is RoHS?
RoHS is a European Directive aiming to control and restrict the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment (EEE). RoHS restricts the use of mercury, lead, chrome VI, cadmium and a range of flame retardants, notably polybrominated biphenyls and polybrominated diphenyl ethers in EEE’s.
Under the legislation, businesses must ensure that products placed on the market do not contain the aforementioned hazardous substances in levels above the accepted maximum concentration values. In addition to this, producers must prepare documentation to prove their product compliance before they are placed on the market and this documentation needs to be retained even after the product is no longer on the market.
Why you need to test for RoHS compliance
RoHS compliance is a legal requirement, failure to do so can result in significant impact on retailers and manufacturers in terms of reputation and cost. Moreover non-compliant products have the potential to cause adverse health effects to consumers.

The RoHS Directive
What is the RoHS Directive?
RoHS is a European Directive aiming to control and restrict the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment (EEE). It is a partner directive to the WEEE Directive that controls the disposal and recycling of electrical and electronic equipment.
What is covered under the RoHS Directive?
The RoHS Directive restricts the use of mercury, lead, chrome VI, cadmium and a range of flame retardants, notably polybrominated biphenyls and polybrominated diphenyl ethers in EEE’s.
Who is affected by RoHS?
RoHS regulations apply to products placed on the European market. The Directive applies to businesses that manufacture or assemble EEE’s in the UK, import EEE’s from outside Europe or re-badge EEE products as their own.
The RoHS Directive does not apply to private individuals making purchases from abroad or retailers and other businesses who only source products from within the UK or Europe; this is because it would be the responsibility of the first importer to ensure RoHS compliance.
How to be RoHS compliant?
Under the legislation businesses must ensure that products placed on the market do not contain the aforementioned hazardous substances in levels above the accepted maximum concentration values. In addition to this, producers must prepare documentation to prove their products are RoHS compliant before they are placed on the market and this documentation needs to be retained even after the product is no longer on the market.
Why do I need to be RoHS compliant?
Being RoHS compliant is a legal requirement, failure to do so can result in significant impact on retailers and manufacturers in terms of reputation and cost. Moreover non RoHS compliant products have the potential to cause adverse health effects to consumers.
